Richest, Poorest

Rep. Cynthia Villar of Las Piñas remains the richest member of the House of Representatives with total net worth of P620,753,827.

Meanwhile, Party-list Rep. Joel Virador of Bayan Muna is poorest with P34,500, according to the statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN) he filed with Congress.

The summary report of the SALN disclosed by Rep. Iggy Arroyo of Negros Oriental showed that he had assets worth P314,100,970.84 and liabilities worth P27,858,652.13, or total net worth, P286,242,318.71. Arroyo is the brother-in-law of President Arroyo and has claimed ownership of the controversial Jose Pidal account.

The other rich lawmakers include Reps. Judy Syjuco of Iloilo (P254,646,911); Ferjenel Biron of Iloilo (P227,090,000); Juan Edgardo Angara of Aurora (P112, 420,000); Rafael Nantes of Quezon (P110,667,027.19); Juan Ponce Enrile Jr. of Cagayan (P93,768,130); Antonio Floirendo Jr. of Davao (P90,858,177); Gilbert Teodoro Jr. of Tarlac (P90,010, 005.89); and Mary Ann Susano of Quezon City (P85,896,203.85).

Meanwhile, congressmen who are considered poor were mostly party-list lawmakers—Reps. Rafael Mariano of Anakpawis (P46,480.49); Crispin Beltran of Anakpawis (P46,480.49); Rep. Teodoro Casino of Bayan Muna (P307,900); Rep. Benjamin Agarao Jr. of Laguna (P490,000); Satur Ocampo of Bayan Muna (P599,088); Mujiv Hataman of Anak Mindanao (P600,000); and Mario "Mayong" Joyo Aguja of Akbayan (P680,000).

Also considered poor were Reps. Hermilando Mandanas of Batangas City (P137,497) and Rep. Peter Paul Jed Falcon of Surigao (P975,000).

Speaker Jose de Venecia was the 34th richest congressman with total net worth of P51,527,015.

Rep. Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo of Pampanga, the son of the President, ranked 18th with total assets of P76, 531,403.96 and zero liabilities.

Opposition Rep. Imee Marcos of Ilocos Norte, the daughter of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, posted a total net worth of P10,767,841.16.

House members with the biggest liabilities include Rep. Rodolfo Valencia of Oriental Mindoro (P200,987,012), Rep. Jose Maria Clemente Salceda of Albay (P73,2000,000), then-Rep. Abdullah Dimaporo of Lanao del Norte (P52,500,000) and Rep. Amelita Villarosa of Occidental Mindoro (P41,201,424).
